As an Anglican church, St George's is part of the Diocese of Egypt, with North Africa and the Horn of Africa. The bishop of the diocese has recently created two episcopal areas to help facilitate ministry and growth in those parts of the diocese not situated within the country of Egypt. Thus there is an Episcopal Area for the Horn of Africa and an Episcopal Area for North Africa. The latter embraces churches in Libya, Tunisia and Algeria. Bishop Bill thus wears two hats: he is bishop for the North Africa Episcopal Area and rector for St George's.
The Diocese of Egypt is led by Bishop Mouneer Anis, an Egyptian and a visionary. He is the third Egyptian to be consecrated bishop of the diocese. Bishop Mouneer resides in Egypt, but makes regular visits to the two episcopal areas. We at St George's very much enjoy his pastoral visits to us! Some of us get to attend Diocesan Synod, a meeting of representatives of the whole diocese - bishops, clergy and lay people - that occurs every other year in Egypt.
