St. George's

We are a diverse, vibrant and friendly crowd of all ages and backgrounds! Within church we enjoy celebrating God's presence in our midst. Through a range of worship styles and via a variety of ways of engaging with the Bible we try to listen to Jesus Christ and please him.

As a church we seek to provoke one another to live daily in touch with God so as to make a radical difference - within our families, among our work colleagues, as we enjoy our hobbies and whilst living in in the wonderful country of Tunisia.

Most of us are living temporarily in this Muslim country, and we feel very privileged to have a church in which to meet. There are very few church buildings in the country as a whole. St George's is one of them and it caters, in Tunis, for English-speaking Protestant Christians - though, of course, Christians from all confessional backgrounds are very welcome to attend!

St George's Tunis is an Anglican church, part of the worldwide Anglican communion that gradually developed from its source in the Church of England, itself the product of the peculiar course that the Reformation took in sixteenth century England.

The church building was constructed in 1901 on land (actually a cemetery) gifted to the British Crown, and both it and the church building are technically the property of the British Government. The British Government, however, accepts no financial responsibility for either the cemetery or the church building and has vested its responsibilities in trustees, one of whom is the British Ambassador and another of whom is the rector of the church.

Although St George's Tunis is an Anglican Church with an Anglican priest as its rector, and part of an Anglican diocese, we are delighted to provide a home for Christians of all denominational backgrounds who find themselves in Tunis and needing a place where they can worship in English. We seek to offer a generous Anglicanism that draws on the gifts and experience of brothers and sisters from different traditions. Our various national and ethnic backgrounds also provide a wonderful chance for experiencing what it means to be truly one in Christ. Of course, tasting and sharing each other's food constitutes a much enjoyed aspect of our fellowshipping together!

We welcome you to come and enjoy the feast - physical and spiritual!
